We are Kim Hayes and Beth Calmes, founders of Kujua Ministries. Kujua is the Swahili for “to Know,” and it is our vision and passion that Swahili speaking women know the Word of God and know how to teach it to others.  

In 2020, we started working with a group of pastors’ wives and could see there was a strong desire from these women to know the Word of God for themselves.

We looked for Swahili women’s Bible studies and didn’t find very much. Beth had Bible studies she had written, from her years working as a missionary in TZ, so we decided to begin by updating and publishing those original studies. Then, we realized there was also a need to have them recorded audibly. Many of our pastors wives host Bible listening groups and these recorded Bible studies and podcasts will be a great tool for many to use!

According to UNESCO: Swahili is “among the 10 most widely spoken languages in the world, with more than 200 million speakers.”

The Kujua Ministries App was created to easily share the Gospel with Swahili Speakers. Anyone can read or listen to our Bible studies directly from the app, or you can choose to download and or print the studies from the PDF files.

There is also a Kujua podcast with the theme: to know God through…anxiety, the loss of a child, having a child with special needs, when your husband cheats and leaves you etc. 

We provide biblical content to Swahili-speaking women equipping them to know and teach God's Word.

In July 2024, we hosted a launch party for the Kujua app. This stunning event was held under white tents overlooking the Indian Ocean. Numerous ministry leaders and friends joined us to celebrate and praise God as we dedicated this ministry to Him. 

Also in July, we moved into a new office space! We had been praying for the perfect space and God provided beyond our expectations. We are grateful for such a beautiful and tranquil place to create biblical content, record podcasts, and audiobooks, and hold training events.

Our vision is to: → To have global reach through app and digital platform

→ To create Swahili content where very little exists

→ To create a collaborative program that connects content creators

→ To train Swahili speakers through free and easily shareable digital, audio, and printed content

→ To train women to train women in the Gospel 

→ To provide increased resources and training for local churches
